My name is Steve Akester, and I have a strong background in IT systems, network design, and web development. Over the years, I’ve worked across various sectors implementing technical solutions that bridge operational needs with digital innovation. One of my recent ventures has been developing a custom Kiosk and Coffee Shop management platform, which includes an online ordering system, staff login dashboard, customer interaction portal, and real-time order status management.

Why I Used ChatGPT for This Project

I turned to ChatGPT for the development of this platform for several key reasons:

  1. Accelerated Development I needed a rapid way to brainstorm, prototype, and iterate through ideas — from database design to frontend behaviour. ChatGPT allowed me to move quickly while maintaining structure and security.
  2. 24/7 Development Partner Having ChatGPT as a reliable assistant meant I could solve coding challenges at any hour, whether it was a PHP logic bug, a CSS layout issue, or SQL query optimization. It filled the gap of not having a full-time dev team while still pushing the project forward.
  3. Custom-Tailored Code Snippets Rather than relying on generic templates or bloated CMS platforms, ChatGPT helped me build modular, clean PHP code that’s tailored to my exact needs. This included:
    • Secure login and user access controls
    • Role-based dashboards for restaurant staff

    • Integration with backend systems like MoneyWorks for accounting
  4. Adaptability and Ongoing Improvements As the project evolves — whether adding VAT reporting, linking to accounting software, or refining the order preparation stages — ChatGPT helps me adapt the system on-the-fly with minimal downtime.

The Vision Behind the Application

This isn’t just about creating another online ordering site. The vision was to build a lightweight, self-hosted, private kiosk platform for coffee shops, food stalls, and pop-ups that value:

  • Affordability and customization without monthly fees

By working closely with ChatGPT throughout the process, I’ve been able to create a robust system that works in the field, is easy for staff to use, and scales as the business grows.

In addition to the kiosk and ordering platform, we provide dedicated Wi-Fi Hotspots designed specifically for use at the coffee shop or kiosk site. These hotspots are:

  • Restricted to on-site use, ensuring that only customers and staff at the location can access the network.

  • Integrated with our payment and ordering systems, allowing fast, seamless access to menus, payments, and order tracking.

  • Optimized for areas where LTE networks are congested or unreliable, giving businesses a reliable, controlled internet connection even in high-density environments.

This allows for consistent service delivery, even during large events, pop-ups, or in rural areas where mobile internet performance fluctuates.
